In 1995, Honda Motors entered into the India market, a joint venture between Usha International of Siddharth Shriram Group, the joint venture formerly came to be known as Honda Siel Cars India Ltd.
Honda later acquired the remaining 3.16 per cent stake for Rs 1.8 billion in 2012 and the company is now known as Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) as a 100 per cent subsidiary of Honda Motors Japan.
That was all about how the company build-up, now, their first product the Honda City - the unparalleled segment leader ever since it debut in 1998 defeated almost every sedan from Daewoo Cielo/Nexia, Hyundai Verna, Opel Astra, Ford Ikon; Fiesta and countless other cars.

City has always been undisputed leader and has received plenty of facelifts and new generation arrivals on frequent intervals that kept the car as competitive as always.
Honda India was always a 'petrol head' until last year when they debuted their first diesel motor in the country, the 1.5 litre i-Dtec 'Earth Dreams' with the Amaze sedan.
From the last couple of years the sales of the City were dipped down as Indian's shifted to diesel cars.

The constant riling from the success of other diesel C-Segment sedans, has led the Japanese automaker to equip the king with a diesel heart.
The City was dethroned by the Fluidic Hyundai Verna for a brief time, but now, after City got diesel, the throne is back where it belonged - Koreans defeated!
After the City, Honda introduced Accord back in 2001 with a petrol motor only and the rest is history - we all know Accord was undisputed champion of the D+ segment, but later lacking of an oil burner and tough competition from German led the car to discontinue in 2013.

Honda displayed the next-gen Accord at the Auto Expo in February 2014 and the car will be equipped with diesel this time when it will be re-launched.
Honda CRV came in 2003, and is supposedly the only SUV that is still surviving with a petrol powered heart (Mitsubishi Outlander already discontinued).
CRV offers extremely soft and planted ride with decent off road capabilities. Honda last year introduced the latest generation of CRV in India.

The SUV is powered by two petrol engine 2.0 litre and 2.4 litre churning out 156PS and 190PS, both the engines are capable and perform well.
Honda still manages to sell CRV nearly 100 units monthly. The 1.6 i-DTEC equipped CRV is in the pipeline, expect the SUV to be launch later this year.
Then came the Civic in 2006, the futuristic D-segment sedan, the digital instrumentation cluster was the best part of the whole packing including the stretched looking exterior.

The car did extremely well for Honda but later after the ales of the sedan dipped because of lacking diesel alternative and rising petrol prices.
Honda also introduced Civic hybrid but due to high import duties the car failed to attract buyers.
Honda Jazz, the first hatchback of the company into the Indian auto market was launched in 2009 was a right competitor for i20 but lacked diesel variant. Moreover, the hatchback was also over priced.

The Brio landed in 2011 a B-segment offering, its sedan iterations came last year and the MPV avatar is yet to arrive this year - Mobilio.
The Amaze was a run away success for the company, debuted with the 1.5 liter i-DTEC.
Brio is holding good for the manufacturer. Mobilio showcased at the Expo in Feb will rival the Maruti Ertiga and will be available in both petrol and diesel.

It’s a thing with Honda and petrol engines (specially the i-VTECs), they are powerful, extremely frugal and smooth running.
Honda cars have one of the highest resale values specially Honda City, ask any of the Honda City owner who sold the City.
Now, they brought the most efficient oil burner in the country (offering 26kmpl!), sales, of course, shooting sky high.

The masses get there most beloved sedan (City) in an efficient diesel engine what else could they desire!
The company is planning to launch the CRV and Accord in diesel to.
There are very few manufacturers in India, who are at best in both the fuel world - petrol and diesel.
With sales graph sky rocketing with each passing day, there's no doubt that Honda is almost there at no. 3 position among the passenger car manufacturers of India.
