According to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers for the 2011-2012 financial year, car sales crossed 20 lakh (2 million) units for the first time ever.
India logged 2.19 per cent growth in car sales, which, however, is the slowest since FY09.
SIAM said it expected 10-12 per cent growth in 2012-2013.
High interest rates, and rising fuel prices had an adverse effect on India's automobile sector.
