Indian engineers will now find it easy to practise as 'professionals' in countries like the UK and the US, with an apex body of engineers in the country getting full membership of the Engineers Mobility Forum.
The Forum provides a platform for an international agreement with top engineering professional institutions of countries like the UK, USA, Singapore, South Africa, New Zealand, Malaysia, Canada and Australia among others.
"This means Indian engineers now don't have to take separate qualification exams in these countries. The Indian degree is treated at par with that of recognised institutions in countries like the UK and the US," Pradeep Chowdary, former president, Institute of Engineers, Delhi, told PTI.
The Institute of Engineers of India, the apex body of engineers in the country, said India has been admitted as a member of the EMF at the International Engineers Meeting held on June 17 in Kyoto, Japan.
'The EMF membership will promote mutual recognition of qualification of professional engineers of member countries. Indian professional engineers or firms can now enter worldwide market,' K O Thakare, president of IEI, said in a statement.
Chowdary said that, as a result, Indian engineers could practise anywhere in these member countries without going through the usual procedures.
"Now there is no need to apply for a separate degree in these countries and take exams. The whole process got simplified and Indian professionals can pursue their career without wasting precious time."
