The Wockhardt Group plans to invest Rs 400-500 crore (Rs 4-5 billion) to establish new super speciality hospitals in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore in the next three years, a top official of the Rs 1,200 crore (Rs 12 billion) entity said on Saturday.
"We are planning three or four more hospital clusters for which we have broadly finalised the plan. The investment envisaged is in the region of Rs 400 crore to Rs 500 crore," the Group's chairman H F Khorakiwala told reporters in Bangalore.
Wockhardt Hospitals, which has a long-term strategic association with Harvard Medical International, the international arm of Harvard Medical School, currently operates in three cities.
They are Wockhardt Hospital and Heart Institute in Bangalore, Wockhardt Hospital and Kidney Institute in Kolkata and super speciality hospitals for heart, brain and spine, bone and joints, eye and minimal access surgery in Mumbai.
Wockhardt would set up more hospitals in Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore besides entering Delhi, Khorakiwala said.
In Bangalore, it has already commenced work on the complex that would house brain and spine hospital, bone and joint hospital and heart hospital.
This new cluster of hospitals, for which investment in the first phase - slated to be completed in two years - is Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion) to Rs 120 crore (Rs 1.20 billion), would have a bed capacity of 400, Khorakiwala said.
Plans were afoot for an exclusive women's hospital to be launched in the second phase, he added.
