Suresh Vaswani, president, Wipro Infotech, sent an email to employees stating: "Over the last few years, Wipro Infotech has consistently invested in the South Asia and Australia. Today, Wipro has over 770 employees in that region. Our Asia-Pacific business has a stronger synergy with our global IT business. Hence, we are transitioning this business to Wipro Technologies. Details of structure and leadership will be made clear in a subsequent announcement."
Wipro Infotech has also undergone other management changes, and re-alignment of various verticals. According to the mail, Anand Sankaran is being appointed chief executive of Wipro Infotech.
"Sankaran joined Wipro in 1989, and since then has played multiple, pivotal roles in products and services. Anand will now carve out the next growth phase of Wipro Infotech. He will report to me," Vaswani said.
The mail further states that the division is expected to cross the $1 billion mark in revenue during FY08. "We have seen aggressive growth in the last 10-12 quarters. As we get ready for the next year, I am happy to announce organisational changes for FY09," Vaswani added.
A few other senior executives from Wipro Infotech have also moved to Wipro Technologies. "Rajat Mathur, TD Thandavamurthy, Dr Anurag Srivastava, Anand Padmanabhan, and Ashutosh Vaidya will be taking up new roles. Some of them, though, will continue to be associated with Wipro Infotech," Vaswani added.
Dwelling on their West-Asian operations, Vaswani said: "We are still extremely bullish. All our business divisions are achieving scale and momentum. With our JV in Saudi Arabia, investments in a strong product and services sales force, and a significant local front end, our business is poised for aggressive growth in the region."
