Wipro's US sales head quits

July 25, 2005 12:07 IST
Software major Wipro's head of sales (America), Rich Garnick has resigned, the second such exit of a senior executive after the company's high-profile vice-chairman Vivek Paul left the firm a month ago.

Garnick has resigned after four years at Wipro, the Bangalore headquartered New York Stock Exchange listed company said in a statement in Bangalore on Monday.

Simultaneously, Wipro also announced the appointment of P R Chandrasekhar, who has been leading European operations, as the chief executive of America and Europe.

Garnick said it was 'exciting' to have been part of Wipro's tremendous growth in its ability to engage and add value to customers.

"Given this phenomenal growth and the associated travel, I have not been able to spend enough time with my family...", he said, adding, the need to focus on his family was the 'key driver' for his decision to leave Wipro.

Wipro Chairman Azim Premji said Garnick had contributed to building the company's 'sales engine' in North America.

On the appointment of Chandrasekhar, the company said under his leadership, Wipro's European operations have consistently grown ahead of the industry.

Chandrasekhar said North America was the largest market and he was 'very excited' by the opportunity to grow business there.

He would be relocating to the US, while working closely with the strong team that he leads in Europe, it said.
