Software giant Wipro plans to set up a mega centre in Orissa at Bhubaneswar and will hire up to 1,500 employees within two years, according to a top state information technology department official.

Tamal Dasgupta, Wipro CIO, on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the state's IT secretary A K Tripathy in this regard.

The proposed mega development centre, to set up over 30 acres of land at Infocity on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, will work on software development and business process outsourcing services, apart from other projects.

The Wipro centre will also work on core information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure services, including development of an integrated centre covering software and IT-enabled services.

The development centre will boast of world-class amenities such as auditorium, training conveniences, residential hostels, indoor and outdoor facilities, he said.

The work on the first phase of this centre, which would comprise at least one unit with a capacity of 1,000 to 1,500 people, will start next year, he said.

The Orissa government has promised to provide all the necessary infrastructural support and facilitate all clearances required for the implementation of the project.
