Wipro employee, 6 others held for duping job seekers

A woman HR manager from a consultancy firm and a Wipro employee were among seven persons arrested by Cyberabad Police here for allegedly cheating ten unemployed youth to the tune of Rs 15 lakh (Rs 1.5 million) on the pretext of providing them software jobs in Wipro, police said on Friday.

The Cyber Crime Police of Cyberabad arrested the kingpin Shaik Bibi Hajra alias Joya Khan, who has been working as HR manager at AZVI Technologies at Ramnagar in Hyderabad besides a Wipro employee Sandeep Kumar Das, working in the IT company’s Gurgaon branch and their other associates from different places in Hyderabad and Delhi, they said.

During investigation, it was revealed that Joya used to obtain database of unemployed youth from various job portals and call them over mobile phone with an offer of backdoor employment in various MNCs such as Wipro Technologies, ONGC, Tech Mahindra and L&T among others, said K Janaki Sharmila additional DCP (Crimes-Cyberabad).

"After making the unemployed youth (of the city) to believe that she can provide them job in such companies, Joya used to refer them to other accused Mohit Singh and Sanoo Singh in Delhi, who in turn took the victims to Sandeep Kumar Das, who conducted mock interviews of such candidates at the Wirpo campus besides issuing fake offer letters," the senior police officer explained.

The accused then used to charge amount from the victims, who finally were duped after coming to know that the job offer letters were fake, she added.
