Volvo on Tuesday inaugurated its new technology centre at Bagmane Park in Bangalore. The technology centre will support Volvo group activities in the areas of IT and truck product development.
The facility was inaugurated by Eric Leblanc, managing director, Volvo India, Ulf Nilsson CEO, Volvo IT; and Anders Ydergard, senior vice president, Volvo 3P Product Development.
Under the backdrop of increasing levels of operations in Asia and within India, Volvo 3P, a business unit within the Volvo group, will now focus on building India as a base for truck product development aimed at supporting strategic expansion in Asia, while Volvo IT will increase its local sourcing from India as well as support its growing customers business in the country.
The Asian market is becoming increasingly important for the Volvo group. To better support the customers, Volvo 3P has decided on a strategic expansion in Asia. The decision to choose Bangalore is based on proximity to the Asian market, a qualified english-speaking workforce and the fact that Volvo's existing business operations are located in the city.
"India is increasingly becoming a key market for the Volvo group -- not only as a market but as a sourcing hub. With this new focus, Volvo's foundation in India gets deeper with a presence across trucks, buses, construction equipment, engines, global component sourcing, IT sourcing and now product development."
