Huawei welcomes new Indian visa norms

November 22, 2006 13:23 IST
Chinese telecom network solutions major, Huawei has welcomed India's decision to streamline visa procedures for Chinese nationals, saying the move is "favourable" for Sino-Indian trade and economic cooperation.

"Huawei is quite happy to see that India's visa policy is becoming more open towards Chinese nationals, which is favourable for our business development and cooperation in India," Huawei spokesman, Fu Jun said.

Huawei, an emerging global telecom player, had complained in the past that it faced problems in getting visa for its Chinese employees posted to India.

On the eve of Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit, India had announced a slew of measures to streamline visa guidelines for Chinese businessmen and professionals that would facilitate a relatively longer stay of Chinese business people, professionals and their dependents for bonafide purpose.

The Shenzhen-based company recently announced that Huawei Technologies India, its largest overseas software research and development centre has opened a new facility in Bangalore, to develop optical network products and wireless Local Area Network solutions.

The new R&D centre will work on Huawei's new generation Optix series of intelligent optical network products based on cutting edge optical technologies.

The new facility to accommodate 180 software engineers will also house team working on wireless LAN domain related software development catering to the wireless switch and wireless access points products.
