The Videocon group plans to set up a multi-product special economic zone at Shendra in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra at an investment of Rs 6,600 crore (Rs 66 billion).

"Videocon is going to set up a multi-product SEZ near Aurangabad at a total investment of Rs 6,600 crore with an employment generating capacity for over 40,000 people," an official told PTI today adding the SEZ would spread across 3,000 to 5,000 acres.

Memorandum of understanding for the SEZ, whose initial investment would be Rs 1,000 crore (Rs 10 billion), will be signed on Monday, he said.

This SEZ would be a joint venture between Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation and Videocon and a special purpose vehicle has been formed for the same, he said.

This will be yet another large investment coming into the state that has already been successful in attracting investments from automobile companies like General Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra and two-wheeler giant Bajaj Auto, the official said.

While General Motors would invest around Rs 1,250 crore (Rs 12.5 billion), M&M and Bajaj Auto would spend Rs 600 crore (Rs 6 billion) and Rs 2,000 crore (Rs 20 billion) respectively.
