After the government of India, now it is the British Labour Party's turn to look East as a nine-member political delegation is slated to visit Kolkata in the first week of April.

The delegation was on a fact-finding mission and the 'Labour Friends of India' would be led by minister of Parliament, Stephen Pound, said Kevin McCole, deputy head of mission, office of the British deputy high commissioner, Kolkata at an interaction with a business delegation from the United Kingdom organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry.

Two more delegations from the UK Trade and Investment, a government organisation that helps UK companies do business abroad overseas companies do business in the UK, would also visit the city in March.

They would be looking for new business alliances and investment opportunities here, said McCole.

He said that UK had 16 priority sectors of doing business, and India, especially the eastern part of the country, had all of them.

Therefore, business houses in the UK were interested in investing in this region.

McCole said UK would like to bring its expertise in health-care, environment engineering, mining, water sector infrastructure development and management and nano-technology to this region, and use West Bengal's knowledge industry to make biotechnological improvements in both countries.

UK is trying to double its trade figures with India from £5 billion in 2003 to £10 billion in 2007, said McCole.
