If one goes by the 'Train Running Information' on the official website of the Indian Railways, the number of trains coming to and from Chandigarh is much more than the actual 14 pairs of Mail, Express and Passenger trains touching the capital of Punjab and Haryana.
Besides the trains actually running, as per the website, Chandigarh is connected by a direct train to Amritsar, a third 'Special' Shatabdi to New Delhi and a second train to Lucknow all of which are not running at all.
As per the site, Chandigarh has a direct train connection to Amritsar via Ambala through the 4535 Kalka Chandigarh Amritsar Express departing Kalka at 1620 hrs, Chandigarh at 1707 hrs and reaching Amritsar at 2320 hrs.
The return train 4536 departs from Amritsar at 2355 hrs, Chandigarh at 0620 hrs and reaches Kalka at 0805
But if someone plans his journey to Amritsar as per this schedule, the passenger would be in for a shock as the pair of trains has not been running since last five years.
Divisional Railway Manager of Ambala H K Jaggi, when contacted by PTI on Thursday expressed complete ignorance about Kalka and Chandigarh being linked by a direct train to Amritsar and running of a third Shatabdi Express to New Delhi.
He also expressed ignorance of a second Express train to Lucknow in addition to a Superfast train to the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Jaggi said he would look into the matter and get the non-running trains removed from the site so that the passengers only get information about the trains actually running.
