Tourists will get an opportunity to travel through the the relatively unexplored Bikaner-Shekhawati region of Rajasthan, known for its exquisitely beautiful 'havelis'.
Designed on the lines of the internationally famous 'Palace on Wheels', the train, which is set to launched on February 17, will bring the tourist face-to-face with the rich heritage of Bikaner, Gajner, Nawalgarh, Mandawa and Ramgarh.
Running on metre gauge unlike the 'Palace on Wheels', that runs on broad gauge, and more competitively priced than the original luxury train, 'Heritage on Wheels' will have a bi-weekly service from Jaipur.
It will have 14 saloons with heritage decor, two restaurants named 'Maharaja' and 'Maharani', a bar-cum-lounge, kitchen and service cars.
The train will offer the traveller opportunity to see the beautiful 'havelis' in the Shekhawati region, which are known for their wall paintings, as well as visit the palaces in Bikaner and go on a safari in the Gajner and Tal Chhapar sanctuaries.
"There is a heavy rush on 'Palace on Wheels' and the demand definitely is more than the supply, which means that there is potential for more luxury and tourist trains in Rajasthan," Vinod Zutshi, chairman of Rajasthan Tourism and Development Corporation said.
