The government plans to introduce Japanese-style bullet trains on some routes in the country and a techno-economic feasibility study on the proposal is likely to be completed by the end of December, Lok Sabha was informed on New Delhi.

The feasibility study for running high-speed trains between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, conducted by the Rail India Technical and Economic Services, is likely to be completed by December-end, Minister of State for Railways R Velu said during Question Hour.

He said several other routes had been identified in 2000, including Kolkata-Tatanagar and those in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

While these and other routes would be reviewed again, decisions to implement the projects could be taken after reviewing the feasibility report on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.

A proposal for a development study has also been submitted to the Government of Japan, Velu added.
