Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said on Thursday it may intervene to mend differences between ESPN and its distributors in conditional access system areas of Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata to ensure that subscribers get to watch the sports channel.

"Trai will not be a mute spectator... Once we know ESPN is aggrieved we want to know the reason," Trai Chairman Nripendra Misra told PTI in an interview.

Although it was a commercial issue between two players and Trai had no role to play but as a regulator and keeping in mind interests of subscribers in CAS areas "we will like to bring

reconciliation between them at the earliest."

ESPN Star Sports had served a disconnection notice to multi-system operators in CAS areas of the three metros over differences in subscription rate.

The broadcaster, which holds the rights to telecast India-England test matches beginning July 19, has, however, decided not to execute its threat of blocking signals to multi-system operator WWIL of Zee group till July 26, it said in Telecom Disputes Settlement And Appellate Tribunal on Wednesday.

"We have not yet received any communication from Trai on this issue,"an ESPN Star Sports spokesperson said.
