The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Thursday said it would take a decision next week on cellular operators' complaint against Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd's latest international and STD tariffs.
"BSNL report on the issue is expected in the next two days. We will take some decision by next week," Trai chairman Pradip Baijal said on the sidelines of the South Asia Communications Infrastructure Conference in New Delhi.
He, however, declined to comment on the regulator's next course of action saying that without the data and the incumbent's comment on the issue, it would not be right to say anything.
"Let their comments come, under what circumstances they did it, the amount of access deficit charge they pay, we will decide," he said.
The options before Trai are fixing a floor price for international calls, or reduce the ADC, he said, adding that final decision would be taken after studying BSNL's replies.
Earlier this month, Trai had sought BSNL's comments on the Cellular Operators Association of India's charges regarding the rate cut by BSNL and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd.
The COAI had alleged that the state-owned operator managed to lower the long distance tariffs due to payments made by private operators to BSNL.
The COAI letter to Trai had alleged that BSNL has been able to lower the tariffs mainly due to payments made by private operators to the incumbent as access deficit charge to allow the state-owned corporation to offer subsidised local tariffs for fixed line services.
Last week, BSNL had announced a 25 per cent reduction in STD and ISD rates.
