India and UK will sign an agreement for setting up a Joint Economic and Trade Committee as part of steps to boost bilateral economic ties on Wednesday.

The agreement will be signed by Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath and UK Secretary of State for Trade and Industry Patricia Hewitt, an official release said.

The signing will be followed by the first meeting of the JETCO, which will be co-chaired by Nath and Hewitt and their respective official and business delegations.

The meeting would focus on recent developments in Indo-UK trade and economic relations covering significant trends in bilateral trade and investments and prospects of the Doha Development Agenda.

The JETCO was announced in the Joint Declaration signed on September 20 last year by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his British counterpart Tony Blair.
