Giving the information in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni said while Delhi was on top in terms of foreign tourist visits, Maharashtra came in second, followed by Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

Fort: The Archaeological Survey of India may initiate legal action against the Municipal Corporation of Chandrapur in Maharashtra if no remedial measures are taken at the local level to remove a weir that may cause damage to the ancient fort at Gondkalin.

In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Soni said water was being stored in the weir, that is very close to the bastion, which may damage the fort and also the Achaleshwar Temple inside the fort.

Soni said the municipality had not obtained any permission from the ASI for building the weir adjacent to the fort. She said the matter was pending with the district collector and if no action was initiated at his level, ASI may initiate legal action against the municipal corporation of Chandrapur.
