The Centre will provide required funds to the Tamil Nadu government for implementation of the Rs 9,757-crore (Rs 97.57-billion) metro rail project in the metropolis, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said on Saturday.
Talking to reporters after paying a 'courtesy call' on Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the latter's Gopalapuram residence in Chennai, he said the Centre would fund the project in Tamil Nadu on the lines of the financial assistance
extended to the metro rail projects in Bangalore and Hyderabad.
Noting that roads across the state had been badly damaged due to the recent seasonal rains,he said they would be repaired using modern technology.Additional funds would also be released for maintenance of roads, he added.
Chidambaram said the Centre would also provide additional funds to the state for renovation of power stations and increase power generation.
