Tata Steel has decided to set up a world class polytechnic in Jamshedpur in collaboration with well known technical training organisation, Nettur Technical Training Foundation, Bangalore.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between Tata Steel and NTTF recently to set up the R D Tata Technical education Centre, according to a press release issued by the company on Tuesday.
The project would be funded partly by the prize money received by the steel giant from the three consecutive prime minister's trophy awards during the last three years, the release said. The training centre would use the R D Tata High School premises, it said.
NTTF has vast experience in the field of technical training and is already running over a dozen such institutes.
The R D Tata Technical Education Centre will initially have three disciplines--tool and die making, electronics and mech-tronics, the release said.
The centre will have 30 seats for each discipline and the children of Tata Steel employees would be given priority, it added.
