FICCI chief, Thai PM discuss FTA

Close on the heels of the Indian team's visit to Thailand for discussions on bilateral free trade agreement, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry president Y K Modi met Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in Bangkok to promote business ties between the two countries.

Besides the Thai premier, the FICCI chief also met Thai Commerce Minister Watana Muangsook and discussed the proposed FTA between India and Thailand, a FICCI release said in New Delhi on Friday.

Shinawatra said the two countries should now look forward to a bright future in bilateral relations.

During the meeting with Muangsook, the two sides apprised each other of the apprehensions of the industry in their countries about the FTA. The FICCI chief and Muangsook agreed to intensify the communication process to make FTA a reality, the release added.

Modi also met chairman of the Federation of Thai Industry to discuss business opportunities. He would also meet the industry minister of Thailand, the release said.
