India's textile exports for the year 2007-08 stood at $20.5 billion, falling short of the target set by the government. The government had set a target of $25 billion export target for the textile sector.
"Textiles exports were impacted by the rupee appreciation but they have been able to register a growth of 10 per cent over 2006-07," Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela said.
He said the government is taking steps to ensure that textile exports of $50 billion are achieved by 2010.
