"We fail to understand why there is a delay in offering to us the package approved by the Cabinet. Delay in offering the so called attractive package will leave us with very little time to take a final decision regarding absorption," Indian Telecom Service Association general secretary Satish Sharma said on Tuesday.

The Cabinet had, on September 29, approved the package that includes 25 per cent rise in emoluments retrospectively to over 2,000 Group A officers of telecom service cadre, who are to be absorbed in BSNL and MTNL.
The package also gives the officers time until October 15 to take a decision on staying back with one of the two public service undertakings. As per the terms of the 'attractive' package, it is made clear that these officers would not have any loss of emoluments (pay + daily allowance) on absorption.
Senior officers would be eligible for stagnation increment. The government has also offered a special allowance resulting in about 25 per cent increase in emoluments per month for each officer, calculated as on October 1, 2000 (the date of corporatisation), an official statement said.
Although the Cabinet had extended the deemed deputation of Group A officers till October 15, 2005 in order to facilitate exercise of the option, the Department of Telecom, on its Web site, has posted the last date as October 10, Sharma said.
