TCS mulls development campus in Kochi

March 08, 2006 12:57 IST

Tata Consultancy Services is planning to build a 50-acre software development campus in Kochi along with their new development centre in Thiruvananthapuram. TCS is likely to take up the project proposal with the Dubai Internet City officials.

"Earlier, the company had discussions with Infopark officials in this connection. Soon after that, the Smart City project proposal came up. As the land acquisition has started for the Smart City, land may not be available for other projects," an industry source said.

TCS already has a development centre at Infopark with a seating capacity of 600. Over 400 employees are working here. The facility at the Infopark is spread across 72,500 sq ft on three floors of the 'Vismaya' building.

The Kochi facility is serving as the base for software development and IT services to meet the requirement of both domestic and overseas customers. The proposed new campus of TCS in Kochi will also help tap a large pool of highly skilled IT professionals in Kerala.

TCS is investing Rs 250 crore (Rs 2.5 billion) to set up a software development centre on the Thiruvananthapuram Technopark campus. The work is expected to be completed by this year and will provide jobs to 5,000 software professionals. The company's corporate training centre here is being upgraded as a global training unit at a cost of Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion). The centre currently trains close to 800 fresh recruits.

The company has signed an agreement with Technopark for leasing of an additional 26 acres of land.
