Indian technology major Tata Consultancy Services has signed an agreement to sell Nasdaq-listed Mercury Interactive Corporation's business technology optimisation software in India. However, the financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

According to TCS vice-president Mahesh Mahajan, "The alliance will enable TCS to enhance its position in the enterprise software market by combining Mercury's BTO offerings with our domain expertise in application implementation. This alliance can provide significant value to TCS customers and prospects looking at optimising application quality and delivery."

Under the alliance, TCS will distribute Mercury's QuickTest Professional, Mercury WinRunner, Mercury LoadRunner, Mercury Diagnostics, Mercury Analytics, and Mercury SiteScope, as part of its enterprise solution offerings in the Indian market and Mercury will extend product support to TCS in India, a TCS release said on Thursday.

Mercury's BTO offerings can help Indian enterprises test and manage the quality and performance of business-critical applications. The product consists of integrated software, services and best practices for IT governance, application delivery and application management.

The development is an extension of an existing alliance, which was signed by the companies in November 2004, when a performance engineering lab in the US was jointly set up by them.

A Tata group company, TCS is into IT consulting, services and business process outsourcing. It has over 40,000 IT consultants located in 33 countries.

"TCS' deep understanding of the Indian enterprise software market and large customer base will help accelerate the adoption of Mercury's BTO products with leading Indian companies," said T Srinivasan, managing director, Mercury India.
