September 08, 2005 13:11 IST
IT majors TCS, Wipro and Satyam have evinced interest to set up software development units in Punjab.

While TCS has already decided to establish a development facility, Wipro and Satyam are currently holding talks with the state government for getting green light for their projects.

Addressing top honchos of industries at a PHDCCI function in Ludhiana on Wednesday, principal secretary (industries & commerce) Punjab, S C Aggarwal said while talks with Wipro and Satyam were in advanced stage, TCS had already given the nod to invest in the state.

While Mohali was leading the way with several IT majors such as Dell, Quark, Infosys and Microsoft already operating from there, Ludhiana was also joining the bandwagon with a leading IT multinational evincing interest in setting up its office, Aggarwal claimed.

On the status of the greenfield international airport at Ladhowal in Ludhiana, Aggarwal said the state government was preparing a feasibility report by a consultant.

The state government is expected to get the report within six months' time, he said, adding the airport would help boost the state's economy.
