Two Tata-controlled companies -- Tata Consultancy Services and CMC -- have been selected by the government to make the ministry of company affairs paperless through a project that would earn them a revenue of Rs 314 crore (Rs 3.14 billion).
The prestigious computerisation programme which the consortium has bagged is called DCA-21.
TCS, along with Tata-acquired public sector unit CMC, beat ICICI Infotech in the final price bid, highly placed government sources said on Tuesday.
The Rs 341 crore project -- DCA 21, which would not only help in easy electronic filing and registration of business and industry but also save time and costs of compliance under the Companies Act -- would be formally awarded to the consortium on Wednesday, sources said.
The final cost includes the payment to consultants apart from the project operators, they said. TCS-CMC, which has been appointed as the BOOT (Build Own Operate and Transfer) operator for the project, would design and implement the project, that would bring in the era of e-filing and e-registration of the companies in a phased manner.
When contacted, MCA Secretary Komal Anand said that the initiative would augur well for the companies at a time of competition from both inside and abroad and ensure availability of information on public domain.
The ministry will formally launch the DCA-21 initiative on Wednesday with the announcement of the operator by the Company Affairs Minister Premchand Gupta.
