January 09, 2003 21:16 IST

In a bid to simplify procedures, the government decided on Thursday to allow individuals going for employment abroad to leave the country without the mandatory tax clearance certificates.

Finance ministry, however, said in a statement that those persons who are specifically notified by the Income Tax authorities, will not be allowed to leave the country by the immigration department without the certificates.

Necessary changes have been made in Section 230 of the Income Tax Act in accordance with the suggestions given by the Task Force on tax.
