In a bid to give a fillip to the rapidly expanding telecom business, Tata Group chief Ratan Tata on Tuesday took charge as chairman of the privately held company, Tata Teleservices, after the incumbent Firdose Vandrewala quit the top post.

The board of the company, which has so far pumped in over Rs 15,000 crore (Rs 150 billion) in the business, invited Rata Tata to head the Board, which the group supremo accepted, a company spokesperson told PTI immediately after the meeting.

"Firdose Vandrewala stepped down as the chairman of the company," he said. Vandrewala had recently quit as managing director of Tata Power.
