Pune-based Suzlon Energy Limited, the world's sixth largest wind turbine manufacturer, will establish a manufacturing base in Tianjin, a northern Chinese port city, to tap the booming Chinese market, a company official said on Wednesday.

Suzlon has just decided to establish its base in Tianjin Huayuan Industrial Park, a sub-park of the Tianjin High-Tech Industry Park.

Suzlon plans to build seven plants, technology center and maintenance centre in the park, involving about $100 million of investment, Xinhua news agency quoted officials from the Tianjin High-Tech Industry Park as saying.

This has become the largest investment project of India in China so far, the park officials said.

The chief representative officer of Suzlon in China Paulo Fernando Soares told PTI that the company has decided to set up a base in Tianjin.

Tulsi Tanti, chairman and managing director of Suzlon Energy Ltd, said recently that Suzlon's integrated wind turbine generator manufacturing facility in China has received requisite licenses from the Chinese authorities.

The total capital expenditure in the China subsidiary is expected to be $55 million, a company release said, adding that the facility is scheduled to be complete and fully operational by the second quarter of financial year 2006-2007.

Last year, Suzlon had secured the first contract in China for the Guohua Inner Mongolia Huitengliang wind farm project worth $37.41 million.
