Sun Microsystems' Scott McNealy, co-founder and chairman, will be in India on a three-day visit starting May 16. He will meet high-level government officials in Delhi on the day of his arrival and deliver keynote address at the Sun Technovate '07, a technology and innovation event, organised by Sun India in Mumbai.
He will also address 80 top CEOs at an exclusive CEO forum in Mumbai. Later, on May 18, he will visit Bangalore, where he will address a developer conference, Sun Technology Summit `07. McNealy will also meet the key customers and partners of the company during his visit.
Sun India Director -- Strategic Alliances -- K P Unnikrishnan said, "Sun India is one of the key growth markets for Sun worldwide. This would be Scott's second trip to India after we established direct operations in the country in 1998."
Sun Microsystems has built up a strong partnership with companies such as Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services, HCL and with independent software vendors like Infosys, i-flex.
"India has also the fastest growing developer market in the world and the phenomenal success of our Sun Tech Days ratifies this.
"All these successes are reflected in a recent development where Sun India was made a separate entity and in Sun's jargon, Geographically Established Market," he added.
After serving as the CEO of the company for almost 22 years (from 1984 to 2006), McNealy handed over the reins to Jonathan Schwartz, who took over as CEO in April 2006.
Scott has assumed the role of an industry spokesperson, taking up the cause of larger issues that affect not just Sun but the industry on a whole such as efforts pertaining to how the private sector can help with education, bridging the digital divide, open standards, the issue of sustainable computing.
