Sun Microsystems keen on telecom, banking

Sun Microsystems India Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based Sun Microsystems Inc., is eyeing the telecom and banking sectors for driving growth in the high-end server market in the country.

K P Unnikrishnan, director (marketing) of Sun Microsystems India said that the bank is intending to go for core banking solutions, this sector threw up an enormous opportunity for high-end servers where the company was enjoying 67 per cent market share.

He said the telecom sector was also growing with so many additions to the number of customers of all the leading operators.

The Sun official said telecom operators would have to upgrade technology to handle millions of customers, for which the market of high-end servers would also open up.

Besides this, Sun would focus on IT, software companies, manufacturing industry, government and retail.
