Sun Microsystems is looking at India to provide a leadership role in developing next generation Java platform.
Senior company executives said Indian developers can provide leadership as efforts are being made to take Java technology and its proliferation to the next level.
At the India edition of Sun Tech Days 2005 seminar, Jeff Jackson, vice-president, Java developer platform and strategy, Sun Microsystems, emphasised India's role as a key contributor to the success of the Java platform and brand.
Jackson and Matt Thompson, director of technology outreach, Sun Microsystems, called for active collaboration and contributory efforts by Indian developers. They also pointed to Java's compatibility aspect.
It's not going to be China alone, which would give competition to India in the IT sector. The Philippines is one of those countries, which is attractive in terms of cost advantage, Thompson said.
The year 2005 is the tenth anniversary of Java. The company said 2,500 developers from across India are attending the event, which concludes on Friday.
The sessions are focused on the domains of enterprise computing, security, mobile computing, web services and open source, company officials said.
