Leading business groups of the country like Reliance and the Tatas have shown interest in entering the Sudanese market, Ambassador of Sudan in India Abdal Mahmood Adbal Haleem Mohammad said on Monday.
Speaking at an interactive session on 'Indo-Sudanese Business Relations' organised by Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kolkata, Mohammad said that Reliance had sent delegations to Sudan twice to explore opportunities in the oil and telecom sector.
He said that the Tatas had also taken interest in the automobile sector, while Kirloskar was willing to enter the sugar industry for supplying irrigation pumpsets to the White Nile Sugar Factory.
Disclosing that Sudan received the highest Indian FDI among all North African countries, Mohammad said that Oil and Natural Gas Corporation had picked up a stake in a Sudanese oilfield at an investment of $750 million.
The Indian company would spend another $750 million for constructing a pipeline from Khartoum to Port Sudan, he added.
The Sudanese envoy said that the country was looking for Indian investments like IT, food processing and pharmaceuticals.
