The All-India State Government Employees Federation on Thursday said that about 1 crore (10 million) state and central government employees and teachers would resort to a nationwide strike on February 11 next year to protest the alleged repression by Tamil Nadu government on its employees and a recent Supreme Court ruling on strikes.

The strike was being observed to defend 'the right to strike' and to demand repeal of the alleged 'barbaric victimisation' of government employees and teachers in Tamil Nadu, federation president M R Appan said in Chennai.

Addressing a press conference, he claimed that the right to strike was 'the birth right of the working class and government employees,' not only in the country but also the world over.

He said the federation through its units will issue strike notices to their respective governments and head of departments by January next.

To a question about alleged fear psychosis created by the Tamil Nadu government on its employees, he claimed that only a small section was affected by it.

Federation would present a memorandum to the Lok Sabha Speaker containing 5 crore (50 million) signatures of workers highlighting the repression let loose by the Tamil Nadu government on its employees, he said.

He also appealed to all central trade unions and national federations to join the strike.
