A public interest litigation seeking cancellation of the license of the Star group-owned FM radio channel Radio City has been filed in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court.

The PIL, filed by the Lucknow-based litterateur R K Mishra on Wednesday, has pleaded that the Star group had floated shell companies to take licenses and handle operations for the radio channel, Radio City.

The petition, filed before the division bench comprising Justice Jagadish Bhalla and Justice G K Gupta, also alleged that the Star group had been using the 'so-called Indian companies' to gain access to the mass media in violation of law and conditions prescribed by the government.

The petitioner has prayed for a stay on the operations of Radio City.

The court directed the government counsel to file a reply within two weeks and posted the matter for further hearing on August 8.
