Sony to bring VAIO laptops, Playstation 2 to India

The government is believed to have permitted Japanese major Sony to undertake cash and carry wholesale trading in India for a range of hi-tech products including LCD and Plasma WEGA, Net MD Walkman, VAIO laptops, Playstation 2 and battery chargers.

The trading will be carried out through Sony Corporation's Indian subsidiary Sony India, sources said in New Delhi adding Sony's proposal has been cleared by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board in its meeting held on May 14.

In its application, Sony stated: "Sony Japan desires to carry out activities of cash and carry wholesale trading in India for its range of products including hi-tech and hi-end products."

Other products for which this operation will be used include Bluetooth technology line-up handycam, digital camera, memory sticks, Playstation 2, Pocket-sized CD burner, battery chargers, MP3-Meomory Stick compatible Car Stereos, Hi-end portable projections and other infotech, audio-visual and professional consumer electronics.
