Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda announced the following amenities for passengers in the Railway Budget he presented in the Parliament:
Railways to improve catering services
To improve the quality, hygiene of on-board catering services and to provide variety, the Indian Railways will introduce Pre-cooked (Ready-to- eat) meals of reputed brands in a phased manner.
Passengers will be able to give feedback on the quality of food through by calling up a computerised service (IVRS mechanism).

Platform and Unreserved Tickets over Internet
The organisation is also working towards letting people buy platform and unreserved tickets over internet. Parking-cum-Platform Combo Tickets will be launched to facilitate the passengers and to save their time.
Railways will also be extending Railway Retiring Room booking over internet.

Railway Reservation System to Be Revamped
Railways is revamping the reservation system as it wants to popularise ticket bookings through mobile phones and Post Offices.
Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda said that Indian Railways will improve the system capabilities in e-ticketing to support 7,200 tickets per minute as against 2,000 tickets per minute and allow 120,000 simultaneous users at any point in time.
Soon you will also see Coin Operated Automatic Ticket Vending Machines on select stations.

Food Courts for Regional Cuisine
The Minister also said that Indian Railways will set up Food Courts at major stations to provide the option of ordering regional cuisine while onboard, through emails, SMS and Smart Phones, etc.
A pilot project will be started shortly between New Delhi-Amritsar and New Delhi-Jammu Tawi sections.

Water, Shelter and Other Passenger Amenities to Be Improved
Railways plan to offer foot-over bridges, escalators and lifts at all major stations including through Public Private Partnership route.
Presenting the Railway Budget 2014-15 in Parliament the minister said that govt would make earnest attempt this year to provide sufficient water supply, platform shelters and toilets at the Railway Stations.

For Seniors and Differently Abled
For senior citizens and differently abled, there would be battery-operated carts to ferry them from one platform to the other.
For this service, Railways will seek help of individuals, NGOs, Trusts, Charitable Institutions, and Corporates.
