The Indian government can raise funds through selling up to 49 percent of the state-run (public sector) firms, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, deputy chairman of the Planning Commission, said earlier this week.

He also added that the economic outlook had improved over the past three months.

In addition, Ahluwalia told a news conference that there was a need for limiting subsidies.
