Last updated on: September 03, 2014 21:30 IST

Singapore Airlines on Wednesday said it will operate an additional flight from Mumbai for Singapore to cater to the high demand on Diwali.

The airline will deploy a Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft for this additional flight, which will depart from Mumbai on October 25, Singapore Airlines said in a statement.

The South-east Asian carrier, which is the first airline to operate jumbo A380 to India, currently offers two daily flights to the city.

These flights are serviced by a combination of the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777-200 ER aircraft.

This additional flight will, however, return as non- commercial flight on November 2, the statement said.

Singapore Airlines, which has also formed a 49:51 joint venture with Tata Group to launch a full service carrier in the domestic market, became the first carrier to roll out commercial flights of the world's largest passenger aircraft Airbus A380 in India in May this year.

At present, it operates A380 on the Delhi and Mumbai routes.
