Encore Software has entered into a strategic partnership with Datanet Systems Ltd to develop a unique application that will enable transfer of funds between two countries, using Encore's mobile, hand-held devices and Datanet's properietary smart-card authentication software.

This solution has been developed for the UK-based XK8 Systems, who work in areas of electronic payment systems and supporting communication services, an Encore Software statement said.

Simputer: The computer for the masses

As a pilot project, this application, using Encore's Simputer with a built-in smart-card reader/writer, would be deployed to enable fund transfer between a person in the UK and a person in Ghana. The pilot project is expected to commence in the middle of August 2005, the statement said.

Sam Lupton, director, XK8 Systems, who is visiting these companies to review the product, said: "Depending upon the success of the pilot project, the service would be extended for transferring funds between the UK and West-Africa involving thousands of customers."

"The use of Encore's Simputers and Datanet's offline transaction software have reduced the cost of this project tremendously. 3DES, a very secure algorithm according to contemporary standards, will be employed. The application has been developed in such a way that it is easy to use and ensures fast services", he said.
