The markets opened strong but slipped during the last hour of trade as profit booking set in. However providing support to the markets were banking and cement stocks. ACC was the star performer gaining over 7% and making a new 52-week high.
The Sensex closed up 36.52 points or 0.27% at 13505.89, and the Nifty was up 0.55 points or 0.01% at 3876.85.
About 969 shares have advanced, 1523 shares declined, and 66 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index was down 0.19 % or 10.72 points at 5,583.36.
The BSE Small Cap Index was dwon 0.27% or 17.44 points at 6,484.18.
The BSE Auto Index slipped 1.04% or 55.60 points at 5,271.75. Tube Investment, Sundaram-Clayto, TVS Motor, Bharat Forge closed down.
The BSE Bankex spurted up 2.16% or 152.15 points at 7,212.38. HDFC Bank, Federal Bank, IOB, UTI Bank and SBI witness buying interest.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.03% or 2.58 points at 8,816.11. Thermax, Aban Offshore, Gammon India, Alstom Projects ended positive.
The BSE FMCG Index closed down 0.38% or 7.72 points at 2,034.86. Shaw Wallace, United Spirits, Dabur India, Britannia closed in red.
The BSE Health Care Index fell 0.79% or 29.91 points at 3,776.38. Glenmark, Cadila Health, Wockhardt, Biocon and Nicholas Piramal lost ground.
The BSE IT Index was down 0.21% or 10.68 points at 4,976.34. Patni Computer , Hexaware Tech, Infosys, TCS takes a dip.
The BSE Metal Index was down 0.42% or 37.31 points at 8,934.90. Welspun Guj, Guj NRE Coke, Mah Seamless, Hindalco and Hind Zinc meltdown.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index was down 0.34% or 21.19 points at 6,195.87. BPCL, IOC, HPCL, ONGC and Petronet LNG witness selling pressure.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 10303.13 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 29340.96 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 6107.27 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 45751.36 crore.
