The markets opened flat and moved slightly higher during the later part of the day. The Sensex closed at 13,186.89, up 56.10 points or 0.4%. The Nifty gained 4 points to close at 3,809. The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,534.39 up 61.44 points or 0.95%.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,551.69 up 57.65 points or 1.05%.
The BSE Bankex was down 0.8% at 6,453.56. Oriental Bank, Vijaya Bank, IOB, Bank of Baroda, SBI moved downwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.3% at 8,860.71. Aban Offshore, Alstom Projects, Gammon India, Crompton Greave and Thermax closed higher.
The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.9% at 3,705.77. Cadila Health, GlaxoSmithKline, Cipla, Orchid Chemical and Novartis India closed higher.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 0.2% to close at 6,331.63. Chennai Petro, Reliance and MRPL ended in green.
The BSE Metal Index was up 1.8% to close at 9,220.00. Welspun Guj, JSW Steel, Hind Zinc, Tata Steel and Jindal Steel ended higher.
The BSE FMCG Index up 2.4% at 2,040.89. McDowell, HLL, ITC, Colgate and Nirma closed in red.
The BSE IT Index closed flat at 4,758.49. Mphasis BFL, HCL Tech, TCS, Wipro and HCL Info declined.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,373.04 down 0.2%. Punj Tractors, Maruti Udyog, Bajaj Auto, Cummins, Hind Motors slipped.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7738.17 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 21623.07 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4243.07 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 33604.31 crore.
