Highest ever closing for Sensex, Nifty

After a quiet trading session the markets closed on historic high. It was the highest ever closing for the Sensex and Nifty.

The Sensex closed at 13,130.79 up 39.67 points or 0.3%. The Nifty gained 14 points to close at 3,805. The BSE Small Cap Index closed flat at 6,472.95.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,494.04 up 24.05 points or 0.44%.

The BSE Bankex was down 0.6% at 6,502.50.  Bank of Baroda, Allahabad Bank, IOB, Oriental Bank, Karnataka Bank moved downwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.33% at 8,835.54.   Thermax, BEML, Gammon India, Praj Industries, HEG,  Bharat Elec closed higher.

The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.3% at 3,672.91.  Aurobindo Pharm, Nicholas Pirama, Dr Reddys Labs, Matrix Lab, Wyeth closed higher.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 1% to close at 6,317.81. ONGC, Reliance Natura, HPCL, Reliance ended in green.

The BSE Metal Index was up 0.13% to close at 9,062.43. Mah Seamless, Sterlite Ind, Hind Zinc, Tata Steel, JSW Steel ended higher.

The BSE FMCG Index lost 0.6% at 2,040.89.  Dabur India, Tata Tea, P&G and HLL closed in red.

The BSE IT Index lost 0.5% at 4,760.40. Mphasis BFL, HCL Tech,  TCS, Wipro and HCL Info declined.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,381.76 down 0.2%.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 7329.46 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 25090.48 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4014.68 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 36434.62 crore.

Sensex @ 1347 hrs

The markets are trading at the lower level on account of selling seen in scrips across sectors. At 13.47 pm IST, the Sensex is down 40.14 points or 0.31% at 13050.98, and the Nifty down 14.40 points or 0.38% at 3776.8.

About 977 shares have advanced, 1437 shares declined, and 69 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are ONGC up 2.96%, Reliance Energy up 2.56% and HDFC up 1.94%

Top losers on the Sensex are Tata Motors down 2%, TCS down 1.4% and Hindalco down 1.37%

Top losers on the Nifty  are HCL Tech down 2.73% and MTNL down 2.07%

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 235.90 down 0.69% from its previous close of Rs 237.55.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,276.45 down 0.56% from its previous close of Rs 1,283.60.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,061.85 down 1.11% from its previous close of Rs 2,084.90.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 186.70 down 1.01% from its previous close of Rs 188.60.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 332.50 up 0.14% from its previous close of Rs 332.05.

Sensex @ 1238 hrs

The markets are still trading weak as technology and FMCG stocks witness selling pressure. At 12.38 pm, the Sensex is down 33.56 points or 0.26% at 13057.56, and the Nifty down 9.10 points or 0.24% at 3782.1.

About 963 shares have advanced, 1364 shares declined, and 80 shares are unchanged.

The BSE IT and FMCG indices are down 0.86% and 0.74% respectively.

Tata Motors at Rs 818.90 (-1.22%), Hindalco at Rs 186.90 (-1.19%) and HLL Rs 235.25 (-0.97%) are the top losers on the Sensex.

HCL Tech at Rs 599.10 (-2.75%), MTNL at Rs 136.80 (-2.18%) and Zee at Rs 316.80 (-1.78%) are top losers on the Nifty.

The top percentage losers on the BSE are Bliss GVS at Rs 38.05 (-11.61%), ND Metal at Rs 97.25 (9.95%) and WH Brady at Rs 103.90 (9.89%).

However, the top gainers on the indices are ONGC at Rs 866.50 (3.28%), Reliance Energy at Rs 490.90 (2.68%), Dr Reddys Labs at Rs 773.00 (1.60%) and Jet Airways at Rs 608.50 (3.16%)

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 235.25 down 0.97% from its previous close of Rs 237.55.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,274.80 down 0.69% from its previous close of Rs 1,283.60.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,065.10 down 0.95% from its previous close of Rs 2,084.90.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 187.35 down 0.66% from its previous close of Rs 188.60.

Sensex @ 1200 hrs

The markets have lost further ground and moved in the red on account of selling pressure in technology, select media and telecom stocks.

At 12.00 p.m IST, the Sensex is down 42.49 points or 0.32% at 13048.63, and the Nifty down 14.10 points or 0.37% at 3777.1.

About 954 shares have advanced, 1299 shares declined, and 70 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are ONGC, Dr Reddys Labs, Jet Airways and Guj Ambuja Cem.

Top losers on the Sensex are Hindalco down 1.22%, Satyam down 1.08% and Wipro down 1.07%.

Top losers on the Nifty are HCL Tech down 2.77%, Zee down 2.56% and MTNL down 2.11%.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 235.65 down 0.8% from its previous close of Rs 237.55.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,274.45 down 0.71% from its previous close of Rs 1,283.60.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,064.00 down 1% from its previous close of Rs 2,084.90.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 188.00 down 0.32% from its previous close of Rs 188.60.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 332.55 up 0.15% from its previous close of Rs 332.05.

Sensex @ 1105 hrs

The markets are lacklustre due to lack of buying interest. At 11.05 am IST, the Sensex is up 0.97 points or 0.01% at 13092.09, and the Nifty down 1.50 points or 0.04% at 3789.7.

About 982 shares have advanced, 1053 shares declined, and 63 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the indices are ONGC up 3.63%, Dr Reddys Labs up 1.40%, Jet Airways up 1.25% and Bajaj Auto up 0.87%

Top losers on the Sensex are TCS down 0.94%,  Infosys down 0.86% and Wipro down 0.81%

Top losers on the Nifty are HCL Tech down 2.22%, Dabur India down 1.51% and GAIL down 1.25%

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 236.55 down 0.42% from its previous close of Rs 237.55.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,280.50 down 0.24% from its previous close of Rs 1,283.60.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,067.70 down 0.82% from its previous close of Rs 2,084.90.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 187.40 down 0.64% from its previous close of Rs 188.60.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 334.80 up 0.83% from its previous close of Rs 332.05.

Sensex @ 0957 hrs

The markets have opened with flat trade as buying was seen in technology, oil, metal and telecommunication stocks.
At 9:57 a.m, the Sensex was up 12 points at 13,103, and the Nifty up 5 points at 3,795.

Gainers were Tata Motors, Reliance Comm, ICICI Bank, TCS, Reliance, Bharti, Bajaj Auto, HPCL, Wipro, Hindalco, Satyam, Glenmark Pharma, Tata Steel, Cipla, ONGC, MTNL, NTPC, Nalco and SAIL.

However, HDFC Bank, HDFC, Dabur and SBI were losers in the morning trade.

Asian markets were trading in positive terrain.

Wall Street extended its decline yesterday; the Dow fell 12.48 points, or 0.10%, at 12,018.54.

Market cues:

FIIs net buy $79.9 million in equity on November 1

MFs net buy Rs 311 crore (Rs 3.11 billion) in equity on Novenber 1

MFs net buy more than Rs 800 crore (Rs 8 billion) in last 4 days

NSE F&O Open Interest up by Rs 1,711 crore (Rs 17.11 billion) at Rs 42,025 crore (Rs 420.25 billion)

Light, sweet crude fell 83 cents to $57.88 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
