Sensex closes at 13,091; up 58 points

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 29 points at 13,062, but dropped to a low of 13,014 in early deals.

Renewed buying in heavyweights like Reliance and ONGC saw the index zoom to an intra-day high of 13,138. The Sensex finally closed with a gain of 58 points at 13,091.

The sectoral indices finished on a mixed note today. The BSE Oil & Gas Index moved up 1.9% ( 114 points) to 6252. The BSE PSU Index was up 1% (70 points) at 6045. The BSE Metal Index dropped 0.6% (60 points) to 9050. The BSE FMCG Index was also down 0.6% (13 points) at 2052.

Advances and declines were evenly matched - out of 2,591 scrips traded, 1,297 declined, 1,219 advanced and 75 were unchanged today.

INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERS

ONGC was the clear leader today - the stock zoomed to a high of Rs 842 before closing on a firm note with a gain of over 4% (Rs 35) at Rs 839.

Reliance hit a high of Rs 1,298 before closing with a gain of over 1% (Rs 19) at Rs 1,284. SBI was up Rs 8 at Rs 1,124.

Maruti was firm right through the session, and closed with a gain of over 2% (Rs 20) at Rs 982. Bajaj added over 1% (Rs 39) to Rs 2,781.

L&T moved up Rs 18 to Rs 1,339. Bharti was up over 1% at Rs 549. HDFC Bank was up Rs 15 at Rs 1,009.

HDFC, Ranbaxy, Dr. Reddy's and Grasim also finished with gains today.

Infosys dropped Rs 19 to Rs 2,085. Satyam was down Rs 8 at Rs 427. ITC, Hindalco and Wipro also declined.

MOST ACTIVE COUNTERS

Reliance was the most active counter with a turnover of Rs 207 crore followed by Indiabulls (Rs 200 crore), Gayatri Projects (Rs 80 crore), Ansal Infrastructure (Rs 80 crore) and Tata Motors (Rs 78 crore).
