The markets ended at the highest points of the day due to buying seen in index pivotals on the back of good third numbers like Bharti Airtel. The Sensex closed at 12,906.81 up 208.40 points or 1.64%. The Nifty gained 62 points to close at 3739. The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,520.38 up 5.68 points or 0.1%.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,396.27 up 30.61 points or 0.57%.
The BSE Bankex was up 1.33% at 6,398.65. Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Federal Bank, PNB and Canara Bank moved upwards.
The BSE IT Index gained 1% at 4,840.25. Patni Computer, HCL Tech, Wipro, Infosys and Satyam advanced.
The BSE Metal Index was up 0.3% to close at 9,131.61. Sesa Goa, Jindal Steel, JSW Steel, Mah Seamless and NALCO ended higher.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.8% at 8,659.91. Lakshmi Machine, Crompton Greave, BEML, ABB, Alfa Laval closed higher.
The BSE Health Care Index closed was up 0.7% at 3,629.84. Sterling Bio, Glenmark, Divis Labs, Novartis India and FDC closed higher.
The BSE FMCG Index gained 1.22% at 2,010.45. ITC, HLL, P&G and Tata Tea closed in green.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,393.44 up 1.35%. Cummins, M&M, Sundram, Tata Motors and Maruti Udyog moved higher.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 3% to close at 5,981.34. Chennai Petro, Reliance, ONGC, MRPL and BPCL ended in green.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8347.59 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 22591.36 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4247.7 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 35186.65 crore.
