Sensex down 79 points at 11,854

The markets closed weak as selling in line with global peers due to fear of interest rate hike in the US.

The Sensex closed at 11,853.85 down 79 points. The Nifty lost 23 points to close at 3,455.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed flat at 5,951.79.

The BSE Midcap Index ended flat at 4,986.07.

The BSE sectoral indices closed in the negative terrain. However, auto stocks saw some buying pulling the auto index.

The BSE Auto Index gained 0.4% at 5,145.39. Exide Industries, TVS Motor, Amtek Auto, Asahi India and Punj Tractors gained on the bourses.

The BSE Metal Index gained 0.2% at 8,573.88. JindalStainless, Sterlite Ind, Hind Zinc and Hindalco witnessed buying interest.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was lost 0.4% at 8,023.10. Praj Industries, Crompton Greave, Gammon India, Thermax and Alstom Projects closed lower.

The BSE Bankex was down 0.9% at 5,360.16.  Bank of Baroda,  IOB, Andhra Bank, Allahabad Bank, HDFC Bank and Union Bank moved downwards.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index lost 1% at 5,717.08. IOC, HPCL, Kochi Refineries and BPCL slipped.

The BSE FMCG lost 1% to close at 2,016.02. Shaw Wallace, McDowell, Colgate, Tata Tea and ITC closed in negative terrain.

The BSE Health Care Index lost 1.2% to close at 3,598.71.  Cipla, Nicholas Pirama, FDC, GlaxoSmithKline, Lupin and Sun Pharma closed in negative terrain.

The BSE IT Index lost 1.4% to close at 4,280.89. Satyam, Wipro, Moser Baer, Infosys and HCL Tech closed in red.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 6255.56 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 22147.93 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3299.39 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 31702.88 crore.

Sensex @ 1400 hrs

The markets are trading weak due to selling pressure in index pivotals.

At 14.06 pm IST, the Sensex is down 72.97 points or 0.61% at 11860.24, and the Nifty down 33.65 points or 0.97% at 3443.6.

About 1096 shares have advanced, 1309 shares declined, and 84 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are HDFC up 2.48%, L&T up 0.60%, Reliance Energy up 0.59%

Top losers on the Sensex are Cipla down 2.34%, Bajaj Auto down 1.93% and Wipro down 1.54%

Top gainers on the Nifty are Jet Airways up 9.78%, HDFC up 2.18% and SAIL up 1.97%

Top losers on the Nifty HCL Tech down 2.81% and BPCL down 2.71%.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 238.05 down 0.4% from its previous close of Rs 239.00.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,127.90 down 0.83% from its previous close of Rs 1,137.35.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,815.00 down 1.01% from its previous close of Rs 1,833.55.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 186.45 down 1.24% from its previous close of Rs 188.80.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 300.15 down 1.96% from its previous close of Rs 306.15.

Sensex @ 1302 hrs

The markets have lost further ground on the back of selling pressure in scrips like Bajaj Auto, HDFC Bank and Cipla.

At 1.02 pm, the Sensex is down 97.98 points or 0.82% at 11835.23, and the Nifty down 27.20 points or 0.78% at 3450.05.

About 992 shares have advanced, 1339 shares declined, and 77 shares are unchanged. Among BSE sectoral indices only the consumer durable index was trading in green.

Bajaj Auto, HDFC Bank, Cipla, ITC, BPCL, HPCL and Suzlon Energy are the top losers on the indices.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,818.00 down 0.85% from its previous close of Rs 1,833.55.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 186.25 down 1.35% from its previous close of Rs 188.80.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 301.40 down 1.55% from its previous close of Rs 306.15.

However, HDFC, L&T, Reliance Comm and BHEL are top gainers on the Sensex.

Jet Airways, Zee Tele, Dabur India and SAIL are top gainers on the Nifty.

BSE 200 losers

Jaiprakash Associates was quoting at Rs 469.00, down Rs 17.1, or 3.52%
Hindustan Construction was quoting at Rs 114.00, down Rs 3.6, or 3.06%.
IDBI was quoting at Rs 65.30, down Rs 1.95, or 2.9%.

Sensex @ 1206 hrs

The markets have slipped again and continue to trade in the negative terrain on account of selling pressure in index pivotals.

At 12.06 pm IST, the Sensex is down 58.44 points or 0.49% at 11874.77, and the Nifty down 17.45 points or 0.50% at 3459.8.

About 980 shares have advanced, 1230 shares declined, and 79 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are L&T up 1.35%, Reliance Comm up 0.55% and BHEL up 0.32%.

Top losers on the Sensex are HDFC Bank Rs 850.00 1.47%, Cipla up 1.03% and Wipro down 1.02%

Top gainers on the Nifty are Jet Airways up 3.05% and Dabur India up 0.78%.

Top losers on the Nifty are BPCL down 2.91% and HPCL down 2.17%.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 238.45 down 0.23% from its previous close of Rs 239.00.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,130.00 down 0.65% from its previous close of Rs 1,137.35.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,821.40 down 0.66% from its previous close of Rs 1,833.55.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 186.80 down 1.06% from its previous close of Rs 188.80.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 299.40 down 2.2% from its previous close of Rs 306.15.

Sensex @ 1110 hrs

The markets are still in red but off the day's low on renewed buying seen in select index pivotals.

At 11.10 am IST, the Sensex is down 35.23 points or 0.30% at 11897.98, and the Nifty down 13.05 points or 0.38% at 3464.2.

About 958 shares have advanced, 974 shares declined, and 73 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are L&T up 2.09%, Tata Motors up 0.88% and Bharti Airtel up 0.80%.

Top losers on the Sensex are HDFC Bank down 1.7%, Wipro down 1.13% and Hero Honda down 0.94%

Top gainers on the Nifty are Jet Airways up  3.11% and NALCO up 1.18%

Top losers on the Nifty are Sun Pharma down 1.61% and PNB down 1.4%.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 240.30 up 0.54% from its previous close of Rs 239.00.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,132.35 down 0.44% from its previous close of Rs 1,137.35.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,823.00 down 0.58% from its previous close of Rs 1,833.55.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 187.50 down 0.69% from its previous close of Rs 188.80.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 305.00 down 0.38% from its previous close of Rs 306.15.

Sensex @ 1011 hrs

The markets opened weak mirroring its global peers. At 10:11 am, the Sensex was at 11871 down 61 points and the Nifty was trading at 3459 down 17 points.

The Sensex however fell by over 104 points at 11,828 in early trade on Thursday on selling by foreign funds in heavy-weighted stocks. Nifty, too was down by 36 points at 3,442 earlier. Since then the markets have clawed back a bit

Asian markets were trading lower, Japan's Nikkei fell 1.68%, South Korea's Seoul Composite was down 0.89%, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted plunged 0.49%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng tumbled 0.99% and Singapore's Straits Times was down 0.83%.

Wall Street stocks tumbled; Dow was down 63 points on fears of Fed Rate hikes because of economic data which came in suggesting that maybe wage cost are going up.

In emerging markets; Russia was down 1.5%, Brazil nearly 2% and Mexico down 1.5%.
