Sensex gains 40 points to 11,572

The markets closed in the positive terrain after witnessing choppy session during the day. The Sensex closed at 11,572.20 up 40 points. The Nifty gained 16 points to close at 3386.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,832.61 up 49 points or 0.8%.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,813.59 up 42 points or 0.9%.

Most of the BSE sectoral indices closed in the positive terrain.

The BSE Metal Index advanced by 1.6% at 8,385.14. Hindalco, Jindal Saw, Sterlite Ind, Tata Steel witnessed buying interest.

The BSE Auto Index gained 0.7% at 4,962.99. Apollo Tyres, Hind Motors, Cummins, Sundaram-Clayto and Bajaj Auto were among the top gainers.

The BSE FMCG Index closed was up 0.9% at 1,979.84. Shaw Wallace, HLL, McDowell, P&G, Britannia closed in green.

The BSE Health Care Index rose 0.5% at 3,513.42. Glenmark, Lupin, Aurobindo Pharm, Pfizer, Wockhardt and Cadila Health rose on the bourses.


The BSE Bankex was up 0.9% at 5,215.97. UTI Bank, SBI, Union Bank, PNB, Bank of Baroda and IOB moved upwards.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 0.8% at 5,607.69. MRPL, GAIL, IOC and Petronet LNG rose higher.

The BSE Capital Goods Index rose 0.2% at 7,669.58. Carborundum, Bharat Elec, ABB, Crompton Greave, BEML closed higher.

The BSE IT Index was flat at 4,222.83.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 6463.3 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 27309.66 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3180.91 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 36953.87 crore.

Sensex @ 1421 hrs

The markets have pulled back on the back of buying support from index pivotals. At 14.21 pm IST, the Sensex is up 60.40 points or 0.52% at 11,592.35, and the Nifty up 21.55 points or 0.64% at 3391.95.

About 1487 shares have advanced, 883 shares declined, and 76 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are SBI, Hindalco and Tata Steel.

Top losers on the Sensex are Tata Motors, HDFC Bank and Reliance Communications. Top gainers on the Nifty are Zee, GAIL and SBI.

Top losers on the Nifty are BPCL, Tata Motors and L&T.  Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 236.80 up 2.2% from its previous close of Rs 231.70.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,109.65 up 0.28% from its previous close of Rs 1,106.55.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,771.00 up 0.19% from its previous close of Rs 1,767.65.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 180.60 up 0.33% from its previous close of Rs 180.00.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 257.25 down 0.6% from its previous close of Rs 258.80.

Sensex @ 1258 hrs

The markets have given up most of their gains but are still trading in green on the back of moderate buying in bank, capital goods, FMCG, pharma, metal and oil & gas stocks.

At 12.58 pm IST, the Sensex is up 22.00 points or 0.19% at 11553.95, and the Nifty up 11.40 points or 0.34% at 3381.8.

About 1398 shares have advanced, 880 shares declined, and 90 shares are unchanged.  The BSE consumer durable index was up1.38% at 3052.09.

Moderate buying is also seen in bank, capital goods, FMCG, pharma, metal and oil & gas stocks.

However, technology and auto stocks witnessing selling pressure.  The major movers on the indices were SBI, Hero Honda, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Zee, GAIL and ABB.

Tata Motors, HDFC Bank, Reliance Comm, Dr Reddys Labs, BPCL and HPCL were top losers on the indices.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,112.10 up 0.5% from its previous close of Rs 1,106.55.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,762.00 down 0.32% from its previous close of Rs 1,767.65.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 180.05 up 0.03% from its previous close of Rs 180.00.

Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 255.30 down 1.35% from its previous close of Rs 258.80.

 

Sensex @ 1209 hrs

The markets are still trading in the green but are off the day's high on account of some profit booking at the higher levels. At 12.09 pm IST, the Sensex is up 39.27 points or 0.34% at 11571.22, and the Nifty up 12.25 points or 0.36% at 3382.65.

About 1406 shares have advanced, 791 shares declined, and 66 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are SBI up 3.68%, Hero Honda up 1.34%, Tata Steel up 1.23%.
Top gainers on the Nifty are Zee up 4.07%, SBI up 3.56% and GAIL up 2.98%.
Top losers on the Sensex are HDFC Bank, Tata Motors and Dr Reddys Labs .

Sensex @ 1108 hrs:

The markets are trading in the green as heavy buying is seen in index pivotals. At 11.08 am IST, the Sensex is up 67.70 points or 0.59% at 11599.65, and the Nifty up 25.75 points or 0.76% at 3396.15.

About 1443 shares have advanced, 487 shares declined, and 60 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are SBI up 3.71%, Hero Honda up 2.25% and Tata Steel up 1.53%.
Top losers on the Sensex are HDFC Bank, Reliance Comm and ITC.
Top gainers on the Nifty are Zee up 5.10%, SBI up 3.83% and MTNL up 2.67%
Top losers on the Nifty are IPCL and BPCL.

Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 232.25 up 0.24% from its previous close of Rs 231.70.

Sensex @ 0956 hrs:

The markets are opened smartly and continue its yesterdays' rally. At 9.56 am, the Sensex was trading up 57 points at 11589 and the Nifty up 28 points at 3398.

SBI, Guj Amb Cem, Hero Honda, Reliance Comm, Reliance Ind, ONGC and SAIL were major gainers.
However, there are few losers like HDFC Bank, Siemens and Sun Pharma.
Asian stocks rise on US durable goods report. The Nikkei rose 0.92% or 146.82 points at 16107.44. The broader TOPIX index gained 0.74% to 1,635.02. Hang Seng surged 0.38% or 63.72 points at 16946.76.

US stocks end flat as durable goods report exceed forecast. The Dow Jones industrial average picked up 6.56 points, or 0.06%, to 11,304.46. The Nasdaq composite index rose 2.45 points, or 0.11%, to 2,137.11.

FIIs net sell USD 11.2 million in equity on August 23. Domestic mutual funds net sell Rs 227.5 crore (Rs 2.27 billion) on august 23. FIIs net sell Rs 24.05 crore (Rs 240.5 million) in equity on Aug 24th (provisional).
