Sensex up 8 points at 10,752

The markets were volatile and trading in the negative terrain for major part of the day.

However, due to buying in select index pivotals the markets were off their day's low and closed flat.

The Asian markets closed flat and the European markets are also trading flat.

The Sensex finally closed at 10,751.66 up 7.78 points. The Nifty closed with marginal gains of 5 points at 3148.

The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,113.09, down 18 points.

The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,283.17, down 20 points.

The BSE sectoral indices closed mixed. Select capital goods stocks witnessed buying, however, banking, metal, and auto stocks dragged.

The BSE Bankex lost 0.83% at 4,741.22. Oriental Bank, PNB, IOB and Allahabad Bank were among top losers.

The BSE Health care index closed down 0.7% at 3,205.63. FDC, Cadila Health, Cipla, Orchid Chemical and Sun Pharma closed in the negative terrain.

The Auto index closed at 4,450.06 down 0.6%. Sundram, Exide Industries, Hero Honda, Cummins and M&M closed lower

The BSE FMCG Index closed flat at 1,881.56. ITC , Dabur India and Colgate closed in green.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed flat at 5,061.06 GAIL, ONGC, Kochi Refineries and Reliance gained.

The BSE Metal Index was down 1.3% at 7,693.25. Sterlite Ind, NALCO, Hindalco and Jindal Steel closed lower

The BSE IT Index was up 0.2% at 3,959.64. Patni Computer, Mphasis BFL, Wipro and Infosys closed green.

The BSE Consumer Durables Index gained 0.65% at 2,725.95. Whirlpool, Titan Industries, Samtel Color and Blue Star gained ground.

The BSE Capital Goods Index gained 0.9% at 7,073.10. Aban LoydChiles, BHEL, L&T, Lakshmi Machine and KEC Infrastruct closed higher.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5090.18 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 16608.67 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2195.77 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 23555.08 crore.

Sensex @ 1425 hrs

The markets are trading in the red due to selling seen in select index pivotals.

The indices are range bound and at 14.25 pm IST, the Sensex is down 59 points at 10,684, and the Nifty down 18 points at 3124.

About 827 shares have advanced, 1402 shares declined, and 76 shares are unchanged.

Top losers on the Sensex are Hindalco down 3.07%, Reliance Comm down 2.78%, Cipla down 2.2%

Top losers on the Nifty are Oriental Bank down 5.52%, NALCO down 4.01% and PNB down 3.22%.

Among the top gainers on the indices were BHEL, L&T and Bharti Airtel.  Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 228.70 down 1.53% from its previous close of Rs 232.25.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 978.50 down 0.05% from its previous close of Rs 979.00.

Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,657.00 up 0.19% from its previous close of Rs 1,653.90.

Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 166.90 down 0.36% from its previous close of Rs 167.50.

Sensex @ 1307 hrs

The markets are still in red but off their day's low. At 1.07 p.m, the Sensex was down 50.75 points or 0.47% at 10693.13, and the Nifty was down 11.35 points or 0.36% at 3131.85.

About 824 shares have advanced, 1310 shares declined, and 76 shares are unchanged.

The BSE metal index was major loser among all the sectoral indices, it was down by 1.91% at 7646.89 amid stocks like Hindalco at Rs 156.85 (-2.67%), Nalco at Rs 195.50 (–3.15%), SAIL at Rs 69.10 (-1.64%) were witnessing selling pressure.

The BSE bankex was down by 1.40 or 66.75 points at 4714.39.

The BSE healthcare and auto indices were down by 1.08% and 0.93% respectively.

However, buying are seen in consumer durable, capital goods and oil & gas stocks.
Reliance Comm, Hindalco, Cipla, HDFC Bank, Oriental Bank, PNB, NALCO and Tata Tea were top losers on the indices.

Indices major losers:
Reliance Communications was quoting at Rs 254.95, down Rs 7.8, or 2.97%.
Cipla was quoting at Rs 230.80, down Rs 5.2, or 2.2%.
Oriental Bank was quoting at Rs 169.30, down Rs 7.15, or 4.05%

BSE 500 losers:
Subex Systems was quoting at Rs 402.10, down Rs 22.85, or 5.38%.
Avaya GlobalConnect was quoting at Rs 257.90, down Rs 22.05, or 7.88%.
Indiabulls was quoting at Rs 230, down Rs 15.05, or 6.14%.
Bilcare was quoting at Rs 365.50, down Rs 23.25, or 5.98%.

Sensex @ 1208 hrs

The markets are lacklustre and are trading near the low point of the day as selling pressure is seen in scrips across sectors.

At 12.08 pm IST, the Sensex is down 83.80 points or 0.78% at 10660.08, and the Nifty down 26.20 points or 0.83% at 3117.

About 757 shares have advanced, 1243 shares declined, and 70 shares are unchanged.

Top losers on the Sensex are Hindalco down 2.85%, Reliance Comm down 2.76% and Cipla down 2.33%.

Major laggards on the Nifty are Oriental Bank down 4.7%, PNB down 4.16% and Tata Tea down 3.34%

Among the few gainers on the Sensex are Bharti Airtel up 0.95%, BHEL up 0.78%, NTPC up 0.65% and GAIL up 1.36%

With interest rates on the up tick, the bankex was down 1.65%. HDFC has hiked interest rates by 50 bps and its PLR rises to 12.25%.

Sensex @ 1056 hrs

The markets are trading weak due to lack of buying interest in the scrips. At 10.56 am IST, the Sensex is down 19.04 points or 0.18% at 10724.84, and the Nifty down 9.45 points or 0.30% at 3133.75.

About 814 shares have advanced, 832 shares declined, and 50 shares are unchanged.
Most of the BSE sectoral indices are trading flat. Selective buying is seen in consumer durables and oil and gas stocks.

Top losers on the Sensex are Reliance Comm down 1.85%, Maruti Udyog down 1.2%, SBI down 1.12%, Sun Pharma down 1.56%, HDFC Bank down 1.52%.

Among the gainers on the indices are BHEL up 1.76%, HLL up 1.01%, Bajaj Auto up 0.91% and Gail up 1.78%
Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 986.60 up 0.78% from its previous close of Rs 979.00.
Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 1,660.20 up 0.38% from its previous close of Rs 1,653.90.
Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 167.50 down 0% from its previous close of Rs 167.50.

Sensex @ 0957 hrs:

The markets were witnessing profit booking in the opening as global cues were down. Banking and auto stocks were witnessing selling pressure. At 9:57 am, the Sensex was down 78 points at 10665. The Nifty was down 23 points at 3119.

Hero Honda, PNB, SBI, VSNL, MTNL, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SPI, HLL, Tata Tea, Maruti, Zee, Jet Airways, BPCL, Infosys and NTPC were trading lower.

Asian markets were trading lower. Japan's Nikkei share average fell 35.15 points or 0.23% at 15,421.66.

FIIs were net buyers of USD 28.5 million and MFs net sellers of Rs 79.6 crore (Rs 796 million) in equity on July 28.
Wall Street tumbled on profit booking; Dow fell 34.02 points, or 0.3%, to 11,185.68 after climbing 3.23% last week.
